December 2003

Dear Friend of THE WAY HOME,

Joy to the world!  May be the love of the Infant Jesus, the invisible God made visible; be with you today in this beautiful season of Christmas!

Have you ever just sat and pondered the miracle of the Incarnation?  That God chose and graced a human vessel, Mary, to bear His only Son?  Of all the ways God could have come to us – in a blaze of glory, as King most high, as a leader of a multitude of angels – he chose to come quietly into the dark world as a tiny, helpless baby.

Not only that, but He came into the most degraded of circumstances. His parents were travelers far from home.  His bed was a manger in an animals’ stable. His first visitors were not the great leaders of the world, but rough and common shepherds. Almost immediately his young life was in danger, threatened by the sword of a jealous king.

God’s ways are so unexpected!  Truly, his wonders never cease.  As Bishop D’Souza is sharing so beautifully in our program this month, God chooses the weak to confound the strong!  He does not punish our littleness – He blesses us, and raises us up as we learn to trust in Him.

In the same way, we at THE WAY HOME are continually surprised by what God has done with our little dreams – He has stretched us and expanded us into every corner of the world!  We never expected to be able to share the good news of the Incarnation – and the Resurrection – the way we have in the last 22 years. Because of the help of you and all of our loyal supporters, we are broadcasting the good news in every populated continent of the globe!

Here’s one example:  As you know, we invite you to submit your prayer requests on the reply card enclosed, and also on our website, www.lumen2000.com. Two weeks ago we received requests from as near as the little town of Lumberton , Texas , all the way to Cape Town , South Africa , and many more places in between.  (Our chaplain, Fr. Bob Hilz, T.O.R.,  is pleased to lift up these requests to God at the Masses he says in our chapel here at Keating Hall.)

It is such a blessing to us to know that our program and our website, which features clips from our program, are touching people who need the joy and hope of our Savior, Jesus Christ!

And it is not because we can draw on the power of millions of dollars and a bounty of resources.  We have no guarantee for the future of this ministry even into next year.  We are like Joseph and Mary, trusting God from day to day.  We are little, like the infant Jesus, completely dependent on your generosity to continue from month to month.

Please, if you have not already sent in your Christmas gift to continue our ministry, send it today.  We need your gift so that the spirit of Christmas can continue through THE WAY HOME into the Year of our Lord 2004!  We want the world to know the love of Jesus.  We want to continue to air the unique and inspirational messages of gifted preachers like Bishop Valerian D’Souza and Father Tom Forrest, who this month are blessing viewers with the beautiful, encouraging message of God’s Son, born to die, dying to rise again and to bring us into the life of God.

You support us because you know there is something special about THE WAY HOME.  There could never be enough Christian programming, because of the infinite wonders of God’s love.  But even if every station aired Christian shows – wouldn’t that be great! – there would still be a need for the unique vision of THE WAY HOME, the vision God gave to our founder, Bobbie Cavnar, and which we continue today.

You see, all of our shows bring forth the power of the Holy Spirit, sent to us from God the Son to bring His love into the world today.  Because the Word of God is living and active, there is a vitality about each one of THE WAY HOME programs.  We explore God’s healing power – healing physical pain, relational difficulty, broken hearts.  We explore how He takes broken vessels and mends us, and then uses us to mend others.  We communicate His love as it is manifested in every age, through saints like Mary and Joseph, Francis and Clare, the Holy Father John Paul II and Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.

There is so much we long to do in 2004!  Please, help us make our little dreams into big dreams, our small resources into giant realities for God.  Send whatever gift you can today.  In God’s economy, your generosity will go farther than you ever imagined!

May God bless you in a very special way this Christmas season and in the New Year.

Forever in His service,

Mike Wagner
