December  2002

Dear Friend of THE WAY HOME,

Peace and blessings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! We always give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ when we pray for you, that you would receive an abundance of grace and blessing as a reward for your faithful prayer and financial support. Thank you for joining us in fulfilling the Great Commission to spread the truth of Christ to the ends of the earth.

As we approach the end of 2002, our hearts gratefully contemplate the magnificent gift of the Father that we received more than 2000 years ago in the Child-Savior. Could the Father have wrapped this gift of mankind’s salvation in a more tender, loving way for us than in the beauty, innocence and helplessness of a newborn child?

The Community of God’s Delight not only sponsors THE WAY HOME 1V program but also operates an inner city school for the children of our community members as well as other children in one of the poorest areas of southwest Dallas. Prince of Peace Community School (POPCS) is a beautiful little school of approximately 120 smiling souls from grades pre-K through 8~" on the lovely campus of the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity.

Daily we are privileged to witness the beauty of watching these children and their teachers embrace our Lord in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. POPCS is the only school in the Diocese of Dallas that provides Mass for their students as a part of the daily routine. By making character development and religious formation on par with academic excellence, POPCS is fulfilling the Great Commission to the smallest of God’s children as well as assisting parents in training their children in the way of the Lord.

The events of 9-11 as well as declining market conditions of the past two years have had dramatic impact on the airline and telecommunications industries in the Dallas area, resulting in widespread- unemployment in these and many other adjacent industries. The uncertainty of employment in our local economy has made it very difficult for families desiring Catholic education.

This year we have seen a decrease of nearly 10% in the enrollment at POPCS. Many parents cannot afford Catholic education in the current economic climate. POPCS, through the generosity of the community members, offers one of the lowest tuitions in the diocese in order to help these families. POPCS would like to extend our low tuition and even tuition assistance to as many families as possible.

You are aware of the ongoing problems of safety, drugs and the values-neutral education that is provided oftentimes in an anti-Christian environment in many public schools. Many children are forced to deal with even more difficult circumstances in the public schools of the inner city. Catholic education should not just be for those with financial means.

This Christmas season, we would like to invite you to join us in supporting the children and families of our POPCS evangelistic outreach as well as THE WAY HOME TV ministry. A tax deductible gift of $10, $25, $50, or $100 to the POPCS Annual Fund together with the contributions of others just like you can go a long way to making it possible for someone’s child to receive a Catholic education.

How can you help? Some of you have received special financial blessings from the Lord this year and may desire to support our kids in an even larger way. Some of you are just getting by and may only be able to give a dollar. Regardless of your gift, please make this need a part of your Christmas intentions. The Lord provides all things, especially for those needs that are brought to Him in prayer. If the Lord prompts your heart to give, then give. If not, everyone can help through prayer.

Simply mark on the check or include a note with the amount of your gift that you would like applied to the POPCS Annual Fund. The balance will be applied to support THE WAY HOME. Also please include your prayer intentions along with your gift. All prayer intentions are lifted up weekly at our community prayer gathering and intercession is made for these intentions at various Masses during the week.

As we dwell on the scene of the Nativity this season, let us behold the face of the infant Jesus. May our hearts be filled with gratitude as we recall the sublime gentleness and peace through which our loving Father brought life into the world again. May it also remind us to pray for the children of Prince of Peace Community School.

Thank you for supporting THE WAY HOME this year. We appreciate your assistance in the past and ask that you continue your financial support as the Lord provides the means. May the special peace, protection and love of Christ our Lord be with you and your family this Christmas season, and may the intercession of our Blessed Mother go before us all into the New Year.

Forever in His Service,

Mike Wagner
