VARIOUS HOLY SPIRIT PRAYERS (5/2002)

Vatican Council II, on the Holy Spirit from the "Dogmatic Constitution on the Church."
"The Holy Spirit was sent that He might continually sanctify the Church, and thus, all those who believe would have access through Christ in one Spirit to the Father. He is the Spirit of Life, a Fountain of Water springing up to eternal life. To all people, dead to sin, the Father gives life through Him, until in Christ, He brings to life their mortal bodies."

HEAVENLY KING (from the Eastern Liturgy)

Blessed is our God, always, now and ever, and forever. Amen. Glory be to You, our God, glory be to You. Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, Who are everywhere present and fill all things, Treasury of Blessings and Giver of Life, increase Your presence within us, cleanse us of all stain and save us, O gracious Lord.
Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal, have mercy on us. (3 times)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and forever. Amen.

COME, HOLY SPIRIT (Traditional Catholic Prayer)

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the Hearts of Your faithful and kindle in us the Fire of Your love.
Send forth Your Spirit and we shall be recreated
--And You will renew the face of the earth, (Ps 104:30).
Let us pray:
O God, Who did instruct the hearts of Your faithful people by the Light of Your Holy Spirit, grant that by the same Spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT, Pope St. Pius X

O Holy Spirit of Light and Love, to You I consecrate my mind, heart and will, for time and eternity. May I be ever docile to Your divine inspirations and to the teachings of the Holy Catholic Church whose infallible Guide You are.  May my heart be ever inflamed with the love of God and love of neighbor; may my will be ever in harmony with Your divine will. May my life faithfully imitate the life and virtues of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him with the Father and You, Divine Spirit, be honor and glory forever. Amen.

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER by St. Augustine of Hippo

Holy Spirit, powerful Consoler, sacred Bond of the Father and the Son, Hope of the afflicted, descend in my heart and establish in it Your loving dominion. Enkindle in my tepid soul the fire of Your Love so that I may be wholly subject to You.
We believe that when You dwell in us, You also prepare a dwelling for the Father and the Son. Deign, therefore, to come to me, Consoler of abandoned souls, Protector of those in need, help the afflicted, strengthen the weak, support the wavering.
Cone and purify me. Suffer no evil desire to take possession of me. You love the humble and resist the proud. Come to me, glory of the living, hope of the dying. Lead me by Your grace that I may always be pleasing to You. Amen.

PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT by Pope Leo XIII

O Holy Spirit, Creator, generously help the Catholic church. By Your super-natural power, strengthen and confirm here against the assaults of her enemies. By Your love and grace renew the spirits of Your servants whom You have animated that in You they may glorify also the Father and His only Son, our Lord. Amen.

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT by Pope Leo XIII

Divine Spirit of light and love, I consecrate my mind and heart and will to You for time and eternity. May my mind be open to Your divine inspirations and to the teachings of the Church, whose infallible guide you are. May my heart be filled with love of God and of my neighbor and my will conformed to the will of God. May my whole life be a faithful imitation of the life and virtues of Christ our Lord to Whom, with the Father and You, be honor and glory forever. Amen.

THE SECRET OF SANCTITY: by Cardinal Mercier

During a retreat, Cardinal Mercier <d 1926> was asked to reveal what he considered "the secret of sanctity," at the convent of the Religious of the Sacred Heart in Brussels, Belgium.  Every day, for five minutes restrain your imagination; close your eyes, as it were, and your ears, to all earthly impressions so as to be able to withdraw into the sanctuary of your baptized soul, the Temple of God within. Then address the Holy Spirit in words like this:

O Holy Spirit, Beloved of my soul, I adore You. Enlighten, strengthen, guide, comfort and console me. Tell me what I ought to do and command me to do it. I promise to be submissive in everything that You permit to happen to me, only show me what is Your will. (and give me the grace to do it).

If you do this, you will spend your life in contentment and peace. You will have abundant consolation even amidst troubles, for you will receive grace in proportion to your burdens, until the day when you will reach heaven weighted with precious merits. Also called the Secret of Sanctity.

PRAYER FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT by Fr. Stefano Gobbi

Come, Holy Spirit, come, by means of the powerful intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Your well beloved spouse. Amen.

PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT by Fr. Bob Hilz, TOR

O indwelling Holy Spirit, I praise, thank, exult, magnify, glorify, worship and adore You. Please, flood me completely with Your Divine Light so that I may see step by step Your direction in my life. I want to be your disciple disciplined by You and claim You as my comforter, defender, guide, protector and cheerful companion. Give me the grace to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ so I may accomplish all You would have me do to spread Your Kingdom for the greater honor and glory of the Most Holy Trinity. I humbly ask in the Names of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Amen. 11/19/97
